As a Digital Marketer and Website designer for contractors, one of the most often asked questions that I get from prospected and current clients is, “How can they get their businesses on to Google?”
The easiest answer to that is to have a website that is not only professionally done but also uses the best SEO or “Search Engine Optimization” techniques available today. Getting that website to show on a Google search result can take a lot of hard work, money, and time, however, once Google knows that your site is there, and what it is all about, chances are that the site will stay relevant in the future with minor tweaks and constant content updates.
There are also many things that need to be done, all in conjunction with the website, to make a business really stand out to Google and its search results. We have to remember that Google is a service. Google wants nothing more than to help its users by finding the best possible answer to their question that it can. If a searcher uses Google and gets result after result that is in no way helpful to them, that user will eventually move to a different search engine like Bing or Yahoo to find what they need.
Google does not want this to happen. If a person searches for an “Interior Painter near me,” it will show the company that likely looks the best as the search result answer. One of my jobs is to make sure that your small business is one of those results. Here’s how to do this.
Online Business Directories
Utilizing the free services that are out there is imperitive to letting Google know that your business is legit. Plenty of Social media sites like facebook and twitter are included in this, but there is much more as well. Home Advisor and Angie’s list are a couple of the major ones. Yellow Pages, Yelp, Trip Advisor and Google are also included. Google has a Google My Business item list that I will go over more in-depth below. Anywhere that you can make a profile for your business for free should be utilized. Many of these websites do have paid versions for advertising, but you do not have to use them. Simply making a free profile on as many sites as you can show Google, Bing, and Yahoo that your business is for real. It is super important to triple check that all the information in each profile matches 100% however. If it doesn’t it could discredit your efforts. The search engines will not know which info is the correct set and therefore will not display any of it. It works like this, the more places that your business is found by Google, the more credit you will get. Free profiles are a must.
Google’s My Business
Google created its own collection of online profiles and business reviews accessed through Google My Business. Setting up a profile here lets Google know your contact info, what you offer, where you are, and precisely who you are as well as what it is that you do. If you have been in business for some time and already have an online presence, chances are that Google may have created one for you already. If not, it is an easy process. Google your businesses name and see if a box shows up on the right-hand portion of the screen with your business logo, and other information. If it does, you can “Claim your business,” by clicking the appropriate link. Make sure all the information is relevant and post some photos and other content. If nothing shows, create one with the Google My Business link. It costs nothing to do this and you would be silly to miss out on this free opportunity for free exposure. Google My Business also is where customers will be able to review your products or services. Having lots of positive 5-star reviews will push your businesses website up the rankings in the search results. These reviews give your business credit, as well as authority. Reviews are pure gold that you use to get higher up in the search results.
Your Businesses Website
At the end of the day, all of these little tricks will have little to no effect if you do not have a website that is formatted correctly. Ranking online all boils down to the homepage and the pages connected to it on your site. Using the correct content, headings, and keywords when building your site is a must. you cannot just put filler paragraphs into your pages. If you are a painter, your site must have keywords like “Interior Paint Service” or “Exterior Painter” with the areas that you service so that Google knows when to show your business.
This is what SEO is. It takes skill and patience to create a list of specific keywords that will help your company’s website in the long run. The keywords must then be inserted in the right places on the website to have the best effect. Having a personal SEO marketing specialist like MWV CONTENT WRITERS to work on your SEO on either your new site or updating your old site is the only way to help your Google rankings.
