Self Employed SEO

Even with the year currently being 2017, and the fact that almost everyone uses social media today on a personal level, some small businesses still refuse to actively pursue social media channels for marketing their self-employed small businesses.

Pessimism with regards to if and how many social media can help a small business, especially with local SEO, is wide, as many believe that large companies are the only ones who benefit from successful social media campaigns.

This is just plain incorrect. Businesses of any size, small and large, can and will see growth in their brand awareness, customer satisfaction, Likes, Shares, and even website traffic boosts from an effective social media brand building campaign.

Why get social?

Over 60% of Millennials say that they stay updated on a brand through social channels.

Almost half of Millennials rely on a brands social media before making a purchase.

Almost 90% of 18-29-year-olds are on social media channels.

78% of companies have dedicated social media experts.

These figures come from Sprout Social and they show one thing. Social media is important to the younger generation. What happens when that generation gets older? Obviously, brand awareness will become imperative. If you do not get a start on your social media platforms today, you may seriously be playing catch-up down the road.

The benefits of creating and maintaining a social media presence greatly outweigh the effort needed to do so. If you do not have the time and energy to do it yourself, employ a Digital marketing consultant, such as MWVCW.

Get on Social media now, and create a plan to get more engagement. If you don;t keep in mind that your competition has most likely already done so.

Seo is the key to getting your business noticed online. What is local SEO, and how do you do it?

Many have heard the term SEO, but are not quite sure what it is exactly.

SEO is a process that is never really finished. For contractors and self-employed businesses “Local SEO” is not only important but is super beneficial to their businesses.

SEO that is Local, is aiming certain marketing efforts towards the city, towns, and surrounding areas that the business operates. Basically, it is important to spend marketing efforts on clients that are local whether through the internet, or not.

As a Digital Marketer and Website designer for contractors, one of the most often asked questions that I get from prospected and current clients is, “How can they get their businesses on to Google?”

The easiest answer to that is to have a website that is not only professionally done but also uses the best SEO or “Search Engine Optimization” techniques available today. Getting that website to show on a Google search result can take a lot of hard work, money, and time, however, once Google knows that your site is there, and what it is all about, chances are that the site will stay relevant in the future with minor tweaks and constant content updates.

There are also many things that need to be done, all in conjunction with the website, to make a business really stand out to Google and its search results. We have to remember that Google is a service. Google wants nothing more than to help its users by finding the best possible answer to their question that it can. If a searcher uses Google and gets result after result that is in no way helpful to them, that user will eventually move to a different search engine like Bing or Yahoo to find what they need.

Google does not want this to happen. If a person searches for an “Interior Painter near me,” it will show the company that likely looks the best as the search result answer. One of my jobs is to make sure that your small business is one of those results. Here’s how to do this.

Online Business Directories

Utilizing the free services that are out there is imperitive to letting Google know that your business is legit. Plenty of Social media sites like facebook and twitter are included in this, but there is much more as well. Home Advisor and Angie’s list are a couple of the major ones. Yellow Pages, Yelp, Trip Advisor and Google are also included. Google has a Google My Business item list that I will go over more in-depth below. Anywhere that you can make a profile for your business for free should be utilized. Many of these websites do have paid versions for advertising, but you do not have to use them. Simply making a free profile on as many sites as you can show Google, Bing, and Yahoo that your business is for real. It is super important to triple check that all the information in each profile matches 100% however. If it doesn’t it could discredit your efforts. The search engines will not know which info is the correct set and therefore will not display any of it.  It works like this, the more places that your business is found by Google, the more credit you will get. Free profiles are a must.

Google’s My Business

Google created its own collection of online profiles and business reviews accessed through Google My Business. Setting up a profile here lets Google know your contact info, what you offer, where you are, and precisely who you are as well as what it is that you do. If you have been in business for some time and already have an online presence, chances are that Google may have created one for you already. If not, it is an easy process. Google your businesses name and see if a box shows up on the right-hand portion of the screen with your business logo, and other information. If it does, you can “Claim your business,” by clicking the appropriate link. Make sure all the information is relevant and post some photos and other content. If nothing shows, create one with the Google My Business link. It costs nothing to do this and you would be silly to miss out on this free opportunity for free exposure. Google My Business also is where customers will be able to review your products or services. Having lots of positive 5-star reviews will push your businesses website up the rankings in the search results. These reviews give your business credit, as well as authority. Reviews are pure gold that you use to get higher up in the search results.

Your Businesses Website

At the end of the day, all of these little tricks will have little to no effect if you do not have a website that is formatted correctly. Ranking online all boils down to the homepage and the pages connected to it on your site. Using the correct content, headings, and keywords when building your site is a must. you cannot just put filler paragraphs into your pages. If you are a painter, your site must have keywords like “Interior Paint Service” or “Exterior Painter” with the areas that you service so that Google knows when to show your business.

SEO

This is what SEO is. It takes skill and patience to create a list of specific keywords that will help your company’s website in the long run. The keywords must then be inserted in the right places on the website to have the best effect. Having a personal SEO marketing specialist like MWV CONTENT WRITERS to work on your SEO on either your new site or updating your old site is the only way to help your Google rankings.

Google has many available resources for businesses both small and large. We all know that Google is one of the largest and most used search engines available today.  Getting any of the behemoth companies like Google, Microsoft’s Bing, or Yahoo to display your businesses information can be an overwhelming task for sure.

Thankfully there are ways to get these companies to push your websites and social media accounts to the right people.

place-holder-1566737_1280How Search engine work

Search engines want to help the consumers using their services. There are a handful of large search engines and all of them are extremely competitive with each other. Google wants to help you better than Bing, and Yahoo wants to keep you using their service. People are creatures of habit. More than likely a person will pick a search engine and stick with it. The only reason that a person may try, or switch, to a different search engine, is if they are unhappy with the way the engine works or do not like the results. The gargantuan companies are aware of this and are there for very cut throat about what is shown to their customers.

Knowing this can work to our advantage. We know that these companies are extremely competitive. Therefore, we know that they must help each of their clients as best as they can by giving the absolute best results possible. We can help this process along, by submitting our contractor or small business web pages and social media accounts in the right places. Showing the search engines what our businesses are all about and making it crystal clear what it is that we do, where we do it, and how we do it, are the keys to “helping” the search engines serve their customers best.

If I am an independent contractor who paints for a living, I would want to submit to Google my website about my business, where it is, who works there, and some useful information about Interior and Exterior painting. If done correctly, over time, the next time a local person searches “Professional Painters,” or a keyword similar to that, my website would show up in the “rankings,” or results page. There are a few major ways to do this successfully.

SEO

SEO or “Search Engine Optimization,” is the best way to achieve a high search engine results ranking. Unfortunately, this is a process of time-consuming efforts, which cannot be done overnight. SEO takes weeks, months, and sometimes even years to achieve the desired results. The benefits, however, are great in the fact that once you have achieved the results and ranking that you want with SEO, you are more likely to keep them. The weeks and months of posting, updating, and “Optimising” your web pages, your social media profiles, and your photo’s and videos can pay off greatly in the long run by getting you more clients down the road. SEO involves a painstakingly long process of identifying relevant “Keywords,” or words that a search engine user would use to find your business.  Creating a list of these Keywords, usually a list of about 200 or more, and inserting them into the content of your online platforms, online spaces, and online profiles are just one of the most important parts of an SEO campaign. SEO also involves creating “Backlinks,” or leaving your website’s address on another website. The more Backlinks your site has, the more authority your site will gain in the eyes of the gargantuan search engines. The more authority or trust you gain, the better your results. These duties and much more are usually part of an all inclusive digital marketing strategy.

Paid

Most Digital marketing managers, or experts, suggest using paid advertising as well as SEO techniques. Usually in the beginning of an advertising campaign, crafting a set of paid ads to gain visibility for the client’s social media profiles as well as web pages while also enabling SEO techniques is the best method to getting exposure. Paid ads are offered just about everywhere these days. Facebook, Google, Bing, Youtube, and Linkedin all offer a paid advertising option. The only problem with paid marketing is that it can get very pricey very quickly with not so great results if not done correctly. The best way to go about a paid advertising campaign is to offer a marketing professional a budget and timeframe, and let this pro handle the ad development, ad targeting, and ad results/outcome. As I said, a newbie to advertising through these channels will eat up a budget fast.

Conclusion

To wrap it all up, creating and managing your online presence is imperative to the sustainability of your business. Many can do it themselves, however, it takes a lot of time, effort, and knowledge about how the systems all work together. To ignore all of these options can end up with a slow growth of a business.

Promoting your contractor or small business by hiring a professional Digital Marketing Manager to craft, optimize, and update your web site and web pages is the only way to get the right search results that you want. Other than the SEO and PAID options mentioned above there are many more items that need the attention of someone.

A digital marketing professional such as MWV CONTENT WRITERS will not only clean up, or build a website, they will create a digital marketing plan that thoroughly outlines the items which need attention, and fixes them.
